Grant Fund Program Supporting Early-Career Visual Artists in New York City (USA)
GrantID: 74823
Grant Funding Amount Low: $20,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $20,000
Summary
This fellowship supports visual artists in a specific metropolitan region, offering both financial backing and institutional support to help deepen your practice. Designed for individuals beginning to emerge publicly as artists—whether just out of school or those still waiting for broader recognition—it seeks to uplift creative voices still gaining traction.
Two recipients will be selected each cycle and each will receive a generous lump-sum award, spread over installments, to cover project-related expenses such as materials and artist fees. Beyond the financial boost, fellows benefit from tailored professional development—through consultations and mentorship with experienced institutional staff—and culminate their year with the exciting opportunity to present a solo exhibition in a well-regarded museum setting.
Applicants must meet geographic residency criteria: live within the designated city area (five boroughs of NYC) and maintain that residency through the fellowship's duration. The program is not open to widely established practitioners; rather, it targets those who have not yet had solo exhibitions at major galleries or institutions, nor received comparable grant support. Limited group exhibition experience or modest exposure, including some international exhibition, is acceptable—but only if it hasn’t yet led to major recognition.
This initiative is offered on an annual basis, with a firm deadline for submissions in the fall. Late entries are not accepted. A jury comprising museum-curatorial staff and guest reviewers evaluates applications based on proposed projects, artistic vision, and readiness for this level of institutional engagement.
Overall, this fellowship offers emerging visual artists both the resources and guidance to grow—financial reassurance, thoughtful mentorship, and a platform to share your work more widely.
